BMS Music Director

After achieving a distinction in Grade 8 clarinet at the age of 11, Margaret went on to study clarinet, piano, violin, composition and conducting at the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music. At the age of 18, Margaret was awarded places at all four Royal Schools of Music but declined them to start her own music school, Ribble Academy of Music. Whilst bringing up a family, she managed to run the business, perform freelance as a solo clarinettist with pianist Philip Kubilius and as part of a wind quintet, Ensemble Elan, attain a BA(Hons) in Contemporary Composition, Licentiate of Trinity College of Music, Licentiate of Royal Schools of Music and perform as Solo Clarinet in the Lancashire Artillery Band.

Once the youngest member of the family started school Margaret embarked upon her career as Director of Music, initially at Cardinal Newman College where she was to stay for the next nine years before moving across to Rossall School, a public boarding school in the North West of England. Under her directorship, the Rossall Chapel Choir participated in numerous cathedral tours across the UK, Europe and US, including being choir in residence at both Washington National Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Margaret also became MD of Fleetwood and District Choral Society and founded both the Fleetwood and District Children’s and Youth Choirs who joined together in an incredible Last Night of the Proms, the main work in which was William Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast.

Margaret moved to Bangkok in 2020 to assume the role of Head of Music at Shrewsbury City Campus and was delighted to recently be appointed as the Music Director of Bangkok Music Society.
